How we came to own Bill!
We have known Tony and Ann Gavan from Koorana Pony Stud for nearly 40 years. At that time we had Shetland ponies and a few years down the track we decided to lease one of their Buckskin ponies. A year later Bill was offered to us. He was a yearling at the time and no-one else wanted him as he looked a bit rough! Tony assured us he would turn out OK,so we bit the bullet and Bill came home with us.
He was a bit of a challenge to begin with as he hadn't had much handling but soon settled in and not long after started his show career in hand.
So far in the Buckskin, Australian and Arabian pony rings he has been awarded 35 Champion ribbons and 18 Reserve Champions [not bad for a pony nobody wanted!]
He then went back to Tony to be broken in to saddle and in true Bill style didn't overwork himself [but had Tony in a lather just trying to keep him going!] He just takes most things at a steady pace,no point wasting energy!
As yet Bill has not been shown under saddle but maybe one day our daughter or grand daughter will take him out.
Bill will still be taken out to a few shows just to keep him in the swing of things. We were glad to be given the opportunity to buy him even though he has to be first to be fed and is boss over all the other ponies!
He has given us both pleasure and a little pain over the years and will continue to for a long time to come and who knows, maybe a few more Champion and Reserve ribbons as well.
